25/05/2005. I was only nine. And, you know… this is the match that made me love football. Everyone has one, I guess, and this is mine. Since then, arguably since that header and celebration for the 3-1, to me @stevengerrard
became the player, @liverpoolfc
became the club. Now I’m 22, and many things have changed. Gerrard has retired, and the same goes for Xabi Alonso, Dudek, Smicer, Carragher... I’ve seen plenty of football matches to this day – I’ve seen some other incredible comebacks, I’ve seen the Leicester miracle, I’ve seen every #championsleague
season. I’ve seen great matches, great players. But none as great as Gerrard. None as spectacular as Istanbul. These memories will stay forever with me, and with every Liverpool supporter – because, after all, there are also some things that never change. And I now think of another boy, somewhere in this big world, nine years old, who tomorrow will be watching the #uclfinal
waiting for a screamer from Salah, Firmino, Mané. Tomorrow we have the chance of writing another piece of history. A beautiful history. Let’s do it again.
