Disclaimer: This post is about to get real deep! For the longest time I struggled accepting my appearance. Growing up as a biracial gay man, I felt there was a constant pressure to look and act in a certain way. People would say things like: “Eric you’re too fem! You’d look better if you act straight”, “Oh so you’re Filipino, but why do you look more white? For a second I thought you were gonna say Chinese because of your eyes. Lol”, “So you’re vers, but where is your ass?”, “Your acne scars are ugly, they look like craters on your face”
Thankfully, as I got older and more self-confident I learned to embrace my insecurities as well as my individualism.
I guess what I’m trying to say is, don’t EVER let society’s Eurocentric standards of beauty and innate heteronormativity define who you are, even if you are White and straight. You define yourself by the things you do and say, not by what other people have to say about you. Be proud to be you! #IndividualityMatters #YouAreNotFlawedSocietyIs #LoveYourself #BeTrueToYou
