-Review: The Bittboy was sent to me for review purposes. The review reflects my true feelings on this portable N.E.S. emulator.
-Design: The design quality of the Bittboy is varied. Aesthetically it's good, taking inspiration from the Gameboy. The system features a 2.5 inch, IPS screen. The games look great on it, but the cheap plastic it uses makes it easy to scratch. This cheapness isn't limited to the screen either, the entire device feels budget. The buttons are responsive and well sized, but they feel 'spongy', especially the d-pad. The single speaker on the device is loud and effective. The battery in the Bittboy conveniently charges with an Android charging cord. Unfortunately the battery only lasts about three hours; not ideal. Furthermore, the device appears to have a SD slot for adding additional games, but it's actually just a useless hole.
-Games: The Bittboy makes a big deal about having three hundred N.E.S. games preloaded. This sounds great, but unfortunately the execution leaves much to be desired. Of these games, only a handful of them are recognizable N.E.S. games. Most of them are knockoffs and fakes, put there to pad out an underwhelming catalogue. Classics like The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Mega Man, and Final Fantasy are simply missing. This issue is made more apparent when there is no way to add more games. Luckily, most of the games that are on the device play well. However, the device has no way of saving your progress.
-Value: Despite its many issues, one of the biggest appeals of the system is its price point. As of now, it only costs around twenty dollars, not a huge investment. Furthermore, the device comes with an AV out cord, making it possible to play the Bittboy on your T.V. The cords provided are cheap, but they got the job done.
-Conclusion: Overall, the Bittboy fails on many of its promises and leaves much to be desired. Even as a cheap emulator to play classic N.E.S. games, it comes up short. It hurts because I know the Bittboy had the potential to be amazing. I give the Bittboy a 4/10.
