Repost By iqphysique96: Strength training and building muscle are beneficial for a few huge reasons. They mean more weight is lost as fat rather than muscle, you burn more calories at rest, and you burn more calories through activity because you are carrying more metabolically active tissue.
A common myth is that 1 lb of muscle burns 50 more calories. This makes zero sense because if you gained 40 lbs of muscle after years of lifting, then you would be burning 2000 calories more at rest assuming your body weight is the same, which it probably isn't. Studies actually show muscle burns something like 6 cal/lb and fat burns 2 cal/lb, so there is smaller but significant benefit to carrying more muscle mass. And don't forget, if you are walking around with more muscle, you burn more calories because your legs are carrying a heavier mass.
Whether you want to look good, be healthier, or lose fat, you should focus on building some muscle.

It’s Memorial Day weekend! So it’s time for the beach..of course. You can’t be hitting the beach with baby biceps! Well I hope by now you already have built a physique to show off this summer😂but if you haven’t and need a sick pump I suggest a few sets of close grip DB curls💪💪
Additional leg session today so used it to keep everything high volume and intense!
Leg extensions: 5x15 exhaust the quads
Leg press: 5 x 12-15
Nordic curls: 5 x 10-12
Single leg curls: 5 x 12-15
Jefferson squat: 5 x 10 (video)
Squats: 5 x 15
Good mornings: 4 x 15
Calf raises: 5 x 15-20
First time trying Jefferson squats. Technique is a little tricky at first for foot positioning and also balance. Even though it's only 40kg here, it is an absolute burner and glutes / hamstrings take a pounding.
Got a nice refeed today so that'll come in handy for the football tonight.
