Catching flights.....and feelings 😏😍
See ya in a month Auckland, we’re just off to get married 💁♀️ 💕 #letsthaitheknot
Despite the constant fear of bears, the early morning Sulphur Skyline trail rewarded us with amazing views of Jasper (without many other tourists). While the hike was strenuous, the hot springs on the bottom was a perfect way to unwind.

StorQuest’s version of a “board meeting” 🤙🏼 How are you staying cool this summer? #MakeRoomForAwesome
🇭🇷 ⚽️ The way they were celebrating, you would have never known the Croatians lost the World Cup last night (more in stories). For a small 27-year-old country still trying to make a name for itself, the hope and excitement was palpable from the moment we arrived in Dubrovnik and were flooded by a sea of red-and-white-checked flags.
We miraculously found a table off the Old Town square where we could watch over dinner, and experience the game with the masses gathered at the Jumbotron nearby.
When France won, there was disappointment and sadness, but also a heartfelt pride. The Croatians we spoke to hadn’t exactly expected to win, though they (and we) definitely hoped they would. They were mostly just excited to have made it so far, played so well, and be put on the map as such a small country.
The party in the square involved dancing under flags and shouting along to national songs, with more than a few flares and fireworks thrown in. People hugged and smiled and cheered. There was no anger, no aggression. Just a heartwarming sense of pride.
Especially coming from the aggressive tribal mentality of sports in the States, which can often end in fights or even riots, it was striking. And that is what I will remember of Croatia and its people—hundreds of people dancing and singing and smiling in the face of setback, because they get (rightful) pride in what they were able to accomplish. Not a bad lesson if you ask me 🙌🏼

Drone/Editing Tip: If you’re flying over a body of water, pay attention to the highlights of the white wash before taking the shot. It’s not easy to pull back detail in the waves when there’s overblown light. Stop down a few stops with your aperture if it’s extra bright out that day and throw a @tiffencompany
filter on if you’re shooting midday. These glass beauties cut down the light to make it easier for us in post. Check out my site in the bio for gear recommendations.
Nothing is worse than pulling a photo up in Photoshop and realizing that you lost detail in the shot that can’t be fixed in Lightroom.
I dare you to ask for constructive criticism about your work. It’s easy to say “stunning shot,” but how can we improve our craft if we can’t tune into the ultimate reality of self-improvement?
A buddy of mine mentioned that he liked the original edit of this shot, but the highlights were too overblown. I welcomed his words with open arms and reworked the edit.
Stay tuned for future drone tips!

The amazing, bold mountains of Utah.
I'm home in Newfoundland and thinking about Ha Giang, the only place I've been that may beat out Newfoundland as the most beautiful. There was something about driving through those majestic mountains, surrounded by rural life that made me feel like home. And maybe it's because of you switch the mountains for the ocean, it isn't so different from where I grew up.
We don't have cell service in my town, nor do we have a store. Obviously, we have access to education and all the things we need, but there's a charm here that's shared with those mountains, like you step back in time for a moment. Everything is slow. Quiet. No hustle.
Coming home this second time around has been a lot easier than last year. I think maybe it's cause I came directly here, to Newfoundland, where the pace is slow and easy (last year I went to Calgary as my first stop and felt seriously out of step with everything around me). I miss Asia. I miss driving my motorbike and having endless coffee and cafes at my fingertips. I miss the community, poetry and open mics and friendships. But I am enjoying my parent's kitchen. Cooking again. Coffee in the morning. Sitting with the sunset. The salty air. My parents nonsense in the morning, their bickering as my mom goes to work. My frigin' bed and my mom's affinity for luxury bedsheets. And writing.
It's funny that the portion of my book I'm working on is from here: in Canada, in Newfoundland. While I was in Hanoi it was all about there. The timing of it feels eery to me. I'm able to soak in the all the details without it being coated in homesickness. Instead it's comfort. The past is around every corner.
Count your blessings, get this week started right 😉

↠ ”You’re going to realize it one day - that happiness was never about your job, or your degree, or being in a relationship. Happiness was never about following in the footsteps of those who came before you, it was never about being like the others. One day you’re going to see it - that happiness was always about the discovery, the hope, the listening to your heart and following it wherever you choose to go. Happiness was always about being kinder to yourself, it was always about embracing the person you were becoming. One day, you will understand. That happiness was always about learning how to live with yourself, that happiness was never in the hands of other people. It was always about you.” 💗 @rainbowsalt

Went to Big Sur this weekend and got skunked both nights. Marine layer covered everything. Reluctantly headed to higher ground to see what it looked like. Once we got through the marine layer the sky was beautiful. This is a single image shot with a Canon 5D and a @sigmaphoto
14mm art lens. 15 second exposure at f1.8 and 3200iso. With @genespies
I could hear the car below driving around but could not see him. This guy must have been riding his breaks this is the only image I got with this much red. Thanks for the assist from that guy.

10 nights. 4 states. 3 National Parks. 2500 miles driven. 50 miles hiked. 2 lightning storms. 2 pairs of double rainbows. 2 moose. 2 black widow spiders. 2 bottles of @bornandbred
and 7 packets of @threejerksjerky
. 1 fire lookout. 0 trips to Cracker Barrel. And of course, 4 road warriors. Can’t wait for the next one.
With a last minute glitch causing us to cancel our Andalusian trip, we booked an impulsive hiking trip in Banff/Jasper. The first sight of the many blue lakes and mountain valleys made us truly appreciate the saying “Everything will be okay in the end. If it is not okay, it is not the end!” (John Lennon)
