Repost from my first page @qahutchins2 Another finished hip hop painting artwork done by yours truly. This is my parody version of Smif-N-Wessun's Dah Shinin' album cover. Dah Shinin' album cover, as many people already know, was an inspiration from Roy Ayers Ubiquity's He's Coming album cover. This certainly wasn't easy for me to do this artwork. The following black cartoon characters in the artwork are: 1. Huey Freeman as General Steele 2. Gerald Johanssen as Tek 3. Riley Freeman, Virgil Hawkins (Static Shock), Sticky Webb and Myron Lewinski (Proud Family), Franklin (Peanuts), Wade (Kim Possible) and Vince (Recess) as Originoo Gunn Clappaz, Heltah Skeltah, Cookieheads, and Thor, Buckshot's brother who are in the shadows. #smifnwessun #Teknsteele #HeltahSkeltah #originoogunnclappaz #OGC #Ruckandrock #bootcampclik #DahShinin #dahshinin #Bcc #boondocks #HueyFreeman #RileyFreeman #geraldjohanssen #HeyArnold #StickyWebb #myronlewinski #ProudFamily #wade #Kimpossible #vincelasalle #Recess #franklinarmstrong #Peanuts #Blackart #hiphopart #blackartwork #Hiphopartwork #africanart #Africanartwork

The character #FranklinSaint , played by #DamsonIdris , was named after #FranklinArmstrong from the long-running #comic strip #Peanuts , the first African-American character in the comic. His last name was added to be ironic
#didyouknow #peanuts #franklin #charliebrown #blackhistory Peanuts is one of the most influential and popular American comic strips in the history of comics. Since its early inception, the syndicated daily illustration created by Charles M. Schulz has accumulated a readership of over 355 million people in 75 countries with over 21 translated languages. Known especially for the classic #Emmy award nominated television specials including A Charlie Brown Christmas and It’s the #GreatPumpkin Charlie Brown, the Peanuts gang managed to spawn into one of the most classic TV cartoons of all time. But although the comic series acquired a great deal of market success, according #LosAngeles #schoolteacher #HarrietGlickman , the comic lacked the “inclusion of a negros in the comic strip.” Following the 1968 assassination of Civil Rights leader #MartinLutherKingJr ., Glickman started a letter writing campaign to Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz to urge the implementation of an African-American character to the gang. “At this time in history, when Negro youths need a feeling of identity; the inclusion of a Negro character even occasionally in your comics would help these young people to feel it is a natural thing for Caucasian and Negro children to engage in dialogue,” Glickman writes. The letter was a success. The first African-American character #FranklinArmstrong made his introductory appearance on July 31, 1968. In his first story arc, he met Charlie Brown when they were both at the beach and he goes to school with #PeppermintPatty and Marcie. Although some southerners were opposed to the desegregation of racial groups, Franklin appeared in the long-running comic series for 31 years before making his last appearance a year before Schulz’s death. Peep the oral history project video below and watch how Glickman recalls the story of her written exchange with #Schulz .

@Regranned from @sharrieff__ - #FranklinArmstrong was introduced to the #CharlieBrown comic strip on July 31,1968 (Wikipedia, 2017). 1) Florido (2015) found that Franklin emerged, following the death of #MartinLutherKing .  2) As a result, this character, was the first to integrate at the suggestion of #HarrietGlickman , a white retired school teacher, who wrote to #CharlesMSchulz , creator of Charlie Brown. 3) At that point, in 1968, Black children and white children, had not seen themselves, depicted inside of a classroom together, according to Glickman (Florido, 2015). 4) With input, for African Americans that Glickman knew, Franklin was introduced as a “son of a father who’s off in Vietnam, as this new “regular kid” plays at the beach (Florido, 2015 p. 1),” 5). He is described as quiet, confident, and does not say unkind words (Peanuts.com, 2017), 6). In the classroom, he sits, on seat, ahead of #PeppermintPatty (Peanuts.com, 2017), 7) He does not live in the same neighborhood as Charlie Brown, he lives in a neighborhood over from him and attends school with Peppermint Patty and #Marcy ENDNOTE. Franklin visited Charlie Brown’s neighborhood on October 15 and October 18, 1968 and “finds it a strange environment (Peanuts.wikia.com, 2017).” ENDNOTE 2. Schulz describes him as "Franklin is thoughtful and can quote the Old Testament as effectively as Linus. In contrast with the other characters, Franklin has the fewest anxieties and obsessions (Peanuts.wikia.com, 2017)." ENDNOTE 3. I always noticed that Franklin sat by himself in the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special, but I never noticed that there's another place at the table next to him. I'm assuming that that's my spot. I would love to sit next to Franklin. #peanuts #charliebrown #snoopy #franklinarmstrong

Happiness is... a winning team! Franklin is #1 and we're on the same team! Introduced on July 31, 1968, Franklin Armstrong was the first African-American character in a comic strip in a non-stereotypical role. Franklin is a character in the comic strip Peanuts (and the Peanuts Movie), created by Charles M. Schulz. He goes to school with Peppermint Patty, Marcie and friends with Charlie Brown. --------------------------------------------- Peanuts gives us the building blocks of an effective team: - There is a good balance of skills, abilities and aspirations. - People express themselves openly and honestly. - There is a willingness to work through difficult situations, helping achieve the overall team objectives. Happy Day of Birth Franklin... Franklin Armstrong is a character in the long-running comic strip Peanuts, created by Charles M. Schulz. Introduced on July 31, 1968, Franklin was the first African-American character in the strip. He goes to school with Peppermint Patty and Marcie. In his first story arc, he met Charlie Brown when they were both at the beach. Franklin's father was a soldier fighting in Vietnam, to which Charlie Brown replied "My dad's a barber...he was in a war too, but I don't know which one." Franklin later paid Charlie Brown a visit and found some of Charlie Brown's other friends to be quite odd. His last appearance was in 1999, the year before Schulz's death. In 1968, shortly after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., a Los Angeles schoolteacher named Harriet Glickman wrote to Charles Schulz regarding the lack of integration in Peanuts. At that time, Peanuts was already one of the most popular comic strips in America — it was also predominantly white. While the country faced widespread social tensions over civil rights, Glickman believed that the popular comic strip could help influence American attitudes on race. She also believed that the Peanuts brand had "a stature and reputation which can withstand a great deal." This began a correspondence between Schulz and Glickman that led to Schulz's creation of Franklin. In an interview in 1997, Schulz discussed receiving a letter from a Southern editor "who said something about, 'I don't mind you having a black character, but please don't show them in school together.' Because I had shown Franklin sitting in front of Peppermint Patty. I didn't even answer him." #Peanuts #FranklinArmstrong #DayofBirth #CharlesMSchulz
