Ella May is afraid for the lives of her children. -
As a textile mill worker in 1929, Ella May earns $9 for a 72 hour work week. She’s a single mother, and when she leaves for work each night, she’s forced to leave her children home by themselves. They’re sick, they don’t have access to medicine, and there’s never enough food to go around. Ella May has already lost a baby to illness, and she’s terrified of losing another. -
So when a union organizer comes sniffing around, Ella May figures she owes it to herself and to her children to check it out. Before long, she’s become the face of the labor movement in North Carolina, and suddenly, she’s not just afraid for the lives of her children anymore. Now, she fears for her life, as well. -
The Last Ballad is different from any book I’ve read in a while, and it was a really welcome change. This story is based on the true story of a 1929 labor strike in North Carolina. The manner in which author Wiley Cash came across the story itself is fascinating. Cash free up in the same city as Ella May Wiggins, and yet, despite having a family member with the same surname, never heard of the labor organizer until a graduate class in 2003. After looking into the story more, Cash set out to tell Ella May’s story, and he did a great job. #historicalfiction #truelife #realstory #labormovement #union #fortheloveofbooks #fortheloveofreading #thelastballad #tlcbooktours
Carissimi lettori, buon pomeriggio!🌻
stanne pur certa;
i sentimenti cedono, tu resti." ✒🌹 #bookstagram #aldamerini #booktag #libridaleggere #ticonsigliounlibro #librisulibri #bookaddicted #booklover #instabook

I am often asked “why do you read so much.”
Reading allows me to enter into different worlds and new lives. I can be in Middle Earth or in New Orleans chasing after the supernatural. I can be a princess or I can be a boy lost in the Alaskan Wilderness. I can be anywhere or anybody at any time and it never gets boring.
If you were transported to the setting of your current read, where would you be?

I finally finished The Fellowship of the Ring Monday night!! It took me so much longer than I'd hoped👎🏼 I found the writing so much different to The Hobbit and really struggled with it at times. But I won't let that put me off the next two. .
How's everyone's week been so far??

💜 Hello, my darlings! 💜
I only just realized today that my new bedspread matches one of my books. Gotta love it when that happens! 😍💚
With just under 150 pages to go, it's unfortunate to say that I'm more than eager for TEN THOUSAND SKIES ABOVE YOU to end, and soon. 😳 Although the trilogy brings forth intriguing ideas and concepts surrounding dimensional travel and multiverses, I'm finding the main character just a little difficult to bear. 🤔 Her indecisive immaturity and repetitive internal monologue is enough to make you roll your eyes more than once. Not to mention that it's become apparent that the trilogy just MIGHT be built purely on "romance" rather than a strong and authentic story. Having said that, hopefully it surprises me and picks up from here! 💁
After my adventure through the FIREBIRD trilogy by Claudia Gray, THIS beautiful book by Lynette Noni is next on my reading agenda!! 🤓
Admittedly, I've had this book for almost a YEAR now and ever since I've absolutely been DYING to read it as I've heard so many positive things about what her YA Fantasy series has to offer! 🙌 Can't wait to dig into this soon!! 😍😍😍
Question: What book are you looking forward to reading next? 😘
Lots of Love,

“Like calls to like.” – Darkling x Alina
There has never been a relationship that gripped me like the relationship the Darkling and Alina have in the Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo. Aside from the romantic shipping I fangirl dream about, there is just such a complex dynamic between these two characters. They are equals and enemies, but with a connection that draws them to each other constantly. 🌖🌘 Two sides to one coin. I just love these characters!!
And isn’t this enamel pin just gorgeous?!! 😍 @alchemyandink
makes such pretty pieces. I hope she continues to make her enamel pin series.
I’m a sucker for a good romance novel 💕
“Welcome to the beautiful Sinclair family.
No one is a criminal.
No one is an addict.
No one is a failure.”
Hardcore unreliable narrator, and I loved every second.

: Never Read Before
I am constantly on the hunt for the perfect cup of tea… Well maybe the perfect cups of tea (I have quite the collection at home). It just so happens that a few weeks ago I found The Tea Place in Callingwood & it quickly became one of my favourite places to buy tea in the city. The variety is unbelievable & I may or may not have spent a lot of money on tea.
But it seems I discovered them a little late as they are closing this Sunday. So if you’ve never been & you’re attending the Callingwood Farmers’ market tomorrow or Sunday go pay them a visit. There is certainly something for everyone. They have really nice bubble tea & there’s coffee (if you’re into that sort of thing). Their location on St. Albert Trail will still be open. I will definitely being paying that location a visit in the future. ~
Until then, I enjoyed a pot of chocolate yerba mate (yum) & read a short story from a collection by Jorge Luis Borges that was a gift from my favourite guy.
All in all it was a perfect afternoon.
Happy Tuesday! Have you ever had a book that you've read before, but can't remember for the life of you what happened in it!? It has happened to me with SO many books and And The Mountains Echoed is one of them! Khaled Hosseini is an autobuy author for me so I bought this book and read it immediately, but now I couldn't tell you anything about it? 🤔
What books do you draw a blank with? Or do you remember all of the stories you read!? (If so, teach me your ways NOW please 🤗)
✨ Blank - #Ampersand2018
completed a second read of this in anticipation of book club on Friday; I first read this several years ago in a "American serial killer" phase. it's still excellent, a unique blend of pure history of the Chicago World's Fair of 1893, & the macabre story of H.H. Holmes.
"Holmes imagined Anna crumpled in a corner. If he chose, he could rush to the door, throw it open, hold her in his arms, and weep with her at the tragedy just barely averted.
"Or he could open the door and look in on Anna and give her a big smile--just to let her know that this was no accident--then close the door again, slam it, and return to his chair to see what might happen next."

Big things are happening at Little Inklings over the next couple of weeks and I'm so excited to share a couple of them with you!
Firstly, our packaging is getting a makeover! This is something I've wanted to do for a REALLY long time but was always hesitant because I didn't want to upset anyone. However it's time to stand by my decision and share the reasons with you and hopefully that will help you understand why the change is so important to me. If you've ever ordered our bookmarks, they have always come in a clear, removable plastic sleeve. As much as I like them for protecting the bookmarks while shipping, I've never liked that when you take it off, it's just garbage. As a company with primarily paper products, I want to be as environmentally friendly as possible, and the plastic sleeves just didn't fit with that. So I'm moving towards recyclable packaging. I've created (read: hand-drawn for 3 days 🙈) a custom envelope for shipping bookmarks. (I know some of you like to keep the bookmarks in the sleeves but I hope you will understand why I'm making the change and how I'm trying to do my part in eliminating unnecessary waste.) I absolutely love the new packaging and I'm really excited to share it with you. ⭐⭐⭐
Secondly, Little Inklings is moving! We are moving off Etsy and building our own online shop! The new shop will be launching July 1st (if all goes according to plan) and that whole week, we will be celebrating with sales, special exclusives and overall fun! My Etsy shop will remain open till then though!
Anyways sorry for the long caption but I'm so excited for what's happening at Little Inklings and the plans I have for the next couple of months. I'll have more exciting news later in the week!
This author is coming to my city tonight!! :D
Raymond E Feist has been a huge name in my household since I was a little sprout. My Dad, Mum and brother have all read and adored his books and I haven’t properly given them a chance.
I’m currently reading Magician, but I’m definitely finding the beginning slow.
It’s starting to pick up now though!! ❓QOTD: What author or book has been prominent in your childhood/family? ❓

I've read manga and watched anime before, but it's definitely been a hot minute ⏱
I heard @bookswithchloe

Me: On the plane home from Orlando, I started rereading Harry Potter book one, and now I’m apparently retreading the whole series.
