And she lived Hoppily ever after... Meet Hoppy the Guinea Fowl, who has been a favourite patient here at Plaza Circle Vets over the last few weeks. We were first introduced to Hoppy after a catastrophic accident in which she sustained some terrible injuries to her leg. Unfortunately there was no way that the leg could be saved, but thanks to Hoppy's dedicated owners, Dr Emma and the team were able to spring into action to save her life. Hoppy was treated for hypovolemic shock as a result of severe blood loss and emergency surgery was performed, during which Hoppy's very damaged leg was amputated.
Hoppy spent several weeks post-surgery convalescing in the lap of luxury in her owners' house while she adjusted to a new way of moving. But with bandages off and stitches removed, Hoppy made the transition from spoiled house-fowl to free bird- reunited with the rest of her flock, who welcomed her return with open wings.
And if you're curious to know just how well a guinea fowl can get around without a leg, just have a look at the footage her owners shot of her first foray into freedom! We just love a Hoppy ending
