So I've been MIA again lmao but !!! had a nice long weekend & am feeling so much better now 💖 self care & quality time with people help so much ✨ Back with: 1. picture of my new friend which I loveeeeee so much ugh artist did an amazing job if you've in SG please look him up @theboldfox !! 2. idk new sports bra i luv it too 3. 92.5kg deadlift without belt 🙌🙌 Training-wise I've decided to switch it up & centre my training around the compound lifts instead of splitting lower/upper like I did previously! Also doing a lot less volume for now & incorporating more walking/LISS for my cut. I really enjoyed the previous volume, but it was getting too time-consuming & my sleep was suffering 💤. WHAT COUNTS AS WEIGHT LOSS PROGRESS? — Earlier today, I was emailing back and forth with a client about the progress she’s made during our first month working together. Despite being fairly consistent, her weight didn’t change much. Maybe a quarter or half-a-pound lost tops. ⠀ Needless to say, she was a bit discouraged 👎... ⠀ To no surprise, either. ⠀ Especially when you consider the weight loss culture as a whole. All day long, you’re bombarded with catchy weight loss marking lines like: ⠀ —> “lose 10 pounds in 10 days!” —> “Get your beach body in just 30 days or less!” ⠀ But(t🍑) while it’s totes okay to use weight as a tool for tracking progress, it’s not the only thing that matters... ⠀ Once my client and I started digging into the numbers a bit more, we discovered that she’d actually lost four total inches from her waist and hips! What’s more, her strength in the gym had gone up! ⠀ You see, there are oodles ’n’ bunches of things that count towards making progress. ⠀ Body weight is one, but there are also things like: ⠀ Measurements Progress Pictures How Clothes Fit Improved Workout Performance How You’re Feeling! And in this post I’m sharing some of the “most fattening” with you! 😜 ⠀⠀ 🍎🍩🥜🥗🍗🥑🍟🍕 ⠀⠀ As you can see, apples make you fat. So do donuts. And peanuts. And salads. And chicken. And avocado *gasp*. And French fries. Sometimes, I forget how far I've come in the past 14 months. I've lost 50 lbs. I ran a mile for the first time in my life. I was able to hold a plank for a decent amount of time and do exercises I never thought I'd be able to do. I've spent most of this year struggling with mental health issues, and I've been avoiding trying to focus on weight loss. Today, I spent a few hours in the ER due to severe lower back pain, and it made me realize how lucky I am to have a body that works most of the time and to not take that for granted. I am trying to spend this summer getting my mental health in check and start my 5K training. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I would probably read this caption... ⠀⠀ 🤨 Did you know that there is a VERY comprehensive list of foods that will undoubtedly “Make You Fat”!? ⠀⠀ It’s true! And in this post I’m sharing some of the “most fattening” with you! 😜 ⠀⠀ 🍎🍩🥜🥗🍗🥑🍟🍕 ⠀⠀ As you can see, apples make you fat. So do donuts. And peanuts. And salads. And chicken. And avocado *gasp*. And French fries. And yes, I hate to say it.... but pizza makes you fat!!!! ⠀⠀ ⚠️ BUT.... only under one condition.... ⠀⠀ 🍽 That you over-consume that particular food to the point where you are eating more calories than your body burns, for an extended period of time! ⠀⠀ ‼️ I repeat.... the only way ANY of these foods will make you fat is if you over-consume them in quantities large enough that would warrant weight gain due to creating a calorie surplus for an extended period of time (days and weeks on end)! ⠀⠀ ❌ This means that eating one apple will NOT make you fat. ⠀⠀ ✅ But eating 40 apples (idk how that’s really possible in a day lol) might in fact add some inches to your waste over time. Same with donuts. Or avocado. And slices of pizza. ⠀⠀ 🏡 The take home message!? ⠀⠀ Every food we eat can, theoretically, “make you fat” if over-consumed. ⠀⠀ 😜 But, some foods are much harder to over-consume than others (fruits and veggies and lean proteins) so eat more of those, vs. foods that are easy to consume (fries, donuts and pizza) so probably eat less of those. . Awesome post about ab training! 👇🏻 - Might be hurting some feelings and crushing some dreams here, but I felt like this post on ab training is a crucial one. Especially because a beautiful 6-pack is the holy grail of exercise goals. Let's get into it, shall we: . ❌Direct ab training will not make your abs more defined unless you are very lean and your abs are under-developed. I really want people to understand this one because it's a common belief that doing abs will make them show better. This is a myth because we cannot "spot-reduce" body fat wherever we want simply by working the muscle. . ❌Research has shown that there actually isn't much ab activation (mostly obliques) at all during squats and deadlifts and you should aim to do specific ab isolation exercises in order to fully develop your abs. A simple crunch has been shown to have 2x the activation than a squat or deadlift. . ❌Training your abs frequently may not be the best idea. If you're worried about a blocky waist, stick with training them 1-2 times per week. You can make your abs bigger and more developed (not always a bad thing) by training them, because they grow like every other muscle. Your abs are there, they're just covered by a layer of fat. Focus on diet for fat loss around your waist. . ❌Many claim that doing crunches is bad for your back, discs, etc. but this has been dismissed by a brilliant article by @bradschoenfeldphd and @bretcontreras1. There has been no evidence to show that doing crunches will have adverse effects on your back and could actually aid it. . Training your abs is not as important as many people think it is, IMO. Doing core work *constantly* may actually be contributing to your blocky waist, not preventing it. I usually train them 1-2 times per week (if at all, tbh), mainly just for the safety and injury prevention benefits, not to get a 6-pack.
