There was a time when I used to pick apart every part of myself. A time when I did everything I could to change the parts of myself I thought were ugly.
I'd spend hours straightening my hair + putting on makeup just to be happy with the way I looked for a couple of minutes. Then I would pick apart everything I had just done because I thought making those surface changes would make me feel good about myself.
What I now know is that changing myself on the surface was never going to fix the way I felt about myself, I needed to dig deeper than that.
I needed to look internally, into my personal beliefs about who I was. After alot of digging, + I mean ALOT of digging, I discovered that my beliefs about myself were that I was unworthy + undeserving of being happy with who I was, or how I looked.
I never truly believed that I could or should love myself for who I am. I always thought there had to be something wrong with my appearance because I didn't look like a model, or the women advertised in magazines or on TV.
After alot of continued personal development I can genuinely say I no longer pick apart parts of me + if I do, I catch myself doing this, flip a switch + choose to love myself for who I am.
We need to start teaching girls + women to love + embrace themselves for who they are + how they look. We need to start preaching self love, start lifting eachother up, + spread kindness to all those we encounter.
We are not meant to live in hatred + disgust of who we are, we are meant to love + value everything that makes us, us.
Today I challenge you to list 🖑 things about yourself that you love, in a journal, your phone, or mentally. It is time we begin loving who we are instead of picking apart ourselves. Spread some love to yourself + all those you encounter today. 💕
