Life will pull us in all directions, but it's up to us to know when to stop and reset. After a bit of family life stress, a spur-of-the-moment trip to the desert was exactly what I needed. Nevada is HOT during this time of year, and the Valley of Fire doesn't just get its name from the red rocks. To avoid as much heat as possible, I timed my arrival for around sunset, but I was already a little late. The sun started disappearing much faster than I estimated. Even though I took 3 shots of this scene in quick succession, only this first frame caught the sun at the right angle to form a star. In the next breath, the sun was gone.
