Yesterday, we found ourselves really hungry whilst shopping - a dangerous combination! Wanting to try somewhere new, I recalled @itscherrysue
recommending the roof terrace of The Yarn - a pizzeria located on the northside of the Liffey. We rocked up as they opened at 5pm and left feeling impressed and more than slightly stuffed!
I'll get to the food in a second but, the service needs to be recognised. Every single member of staff that we passed said hello and they even offered to take our shopping bags and store them for us. It was attentive but, relaxed and, while the restaurant was still quiet at 5pm, we didn't feel awkward as so often is the case when you are one of only a few tables. Our waitress didn't miss a beat when Kevin asked how they made their margs (50ml tequila, 20ml Cointreau, 20ml fresh lime juice) and I can recommend them as some of the best margs in the city. At €9.50 they are some of the cheapest too!
The menu features a nice selection of light starters - antipasti and salads mainly, a choice of 15 pizzas ranging from the ordinary Margherita to the sublime Nduja and a few sides including delicious parmesan eggplant fries. Prices range from €6 - €14 for starters and sides and €9 - €18 for pizza. They also do group menus so, could be one to keep in mind for parties.
The pizza. Oh the pizza. It is good, like REALLY good. It's the most akin to a New York pie that I've found in Dublin and the dough retains that crispy base with a pillowy soft crust and just enough integrity to be able to pick it up with your hands. Kevin had the Capricciosa and I had the aforementioned Nduja. Both pizzas were heaving under the weight of their toppings and packed full of flavour. We also shared an antipasti and the eggplant fries but, in hindsight, our eyes were probably bigger than our stomachs - a sharing pizza would have been more appropriate!
joins a short but mighty list of my go-to Dublin eateries. 10/10.
