Cannot even begin to explain how under fuelled for tonight’s lifts I was, not to mention it was about 3degrees in the gym and the bar felt like an icicle! Non the less, here is 180kg (396lbs) going up at a BW of 88kg (194lbs). The second is an effort for 185kg (408lbs). Got to knees but I had nothing left. Big PR on this set with 5@235 , and likely had another if I'd had a spotter for encouragement. Solo training is the dream in many different ways - except for maxing out on bench! (I do have the pins set up to minimize bruises from the "roll of shame" after a failed rep, but having to leave it on the pins puts a dent in confidence for the rest of the workout, so I prefer to keep a rep in the tank.) I thought I'd use this video as a back drop to address a FAQ. Recently, many have asked about how I got my daughter into powerlifting or "how can I get my kid into lifting.". Honestly, I'm not sure I have the answers. I give my laddybug much more credit than anything her mom or I have done. That said, I think there are 3 things have aided in her desire to compete in powerlifting 1. Every season contains some laughter. 2. We find ways to compete with ourselves and each other (like pull up contests) 3. We believe that strength is a virtue to be desired and pursued. I'll also add that her desire to continue training is helped tremendously by the encouragement from the powerlifting community and the many examples of strong woman getting it done out there. . . . . . I think I will be making some Mexican Stuffed Tilapia Peppers tomorrow. My favorite meal when I ate beef was stuffed bell peppers with ground beef or turkey, but seeing as to how those are no longer in my diet, this looks like an awesome alternative. Nightly routine ✔️ . It’s much easier when I’m not trying to get all of my stuff together at 4:30am. All I have to worry about is throwing gym clothes on and taking my pre-workout 👌🏻
“The body achieves, what the mind believes.” . . . I learned a lot about slow and controlled reps this morning. Controlling the negative part of a rep. It was my first upper body workout in a week and it felt so good to hold some dumbbells. I went very light with about 15-20 reps per set. But, the slow and controlled movements provided plenty of burn. My workout as a whole was a much slower pace, but still highly effective. Hopefully it’s the start of feeling better and I’m back on track soon 🤞🏻
Finally seeing some progress in my legs! 🕺🏻🙌🏻 . I’m going to be focusing on them mainly for the next week or so until I’m feeling better. But, this is such a good feeling! 👏🏻💥
“Your body won’t go where your mind doesn’t push it.” . . . Today was supposed to be a heavy shoulder day until I hit a bump in the road. So instead I hit a quick high rep leg workout, high intensity cardio session and then had to call it quits. A little tweak in my shoulder cut today’s workout short, but still got a good sweat in!
“I want to know what it feels like to not give up.” . . . I have these visions and goals. I have my eyes set on something and the bar is high for myself. I’m going to push through this day by day until I know I’ve accomplished what I’m working towards. . Another workout down rocking my favorite @undisputed_nutrition hat! 💥
“Be your biggest competitor. Challenge yourself each day to be better than you were yesterday.” . . . Some days it feels like things are actually paying off. It feels like progress is being made. I’m not in the gym lifting the heaviest weight or trying to be a power lifter. I’m there to better myself, to compete against myself and to outwork myself.
This morning started slow and I didn’t feel 100% committed. I was trying to hit workouts and reps I’ve done before and was struggling for some reason. After a few sets, I got pissed. Something clicked and I turned it around. I hit what I wanted and what I know I could do. Ended up being a damn good workout! 💥
