If you've ever baked with protein shake powder, you probably realized quickly that not all protein powders bake the same way. Not only do the different types bake differently (whey, pea, casein, etc.) but you could have 5 different single-ingredient whey protein powders that bake differently. It's all in how the protein is processed. So what's a home baker to do? Here are some tips:
🌟Get your recipes from reliable sources. Some protein powder companies like to copy recipes from other sites without ever trying the recipe with their powder. Finding recipes from original blog posts is usually your best bet.
🌟Use the same protein that is used in the recipe. If that's not clear, ask the recipe creator which powder was used!
🌟If you like to experiment on your own, steer clear of the clean isolate powders. They are the hardest to work with, in my experience. Some good ones- Quest makes a whey/casein blend that bakes nicely (but don't expect this to work in recipes that call for whey). Plnt from Vitamin Shoppe is a nice pea blend. Jamie Eason's Lean Body line bakes well - vanilla and chocolate whey. 🍰And we sell an unflavored, one ingredient whey protein (lecithin-free) that is my favorite for baking. It can easily be flavored to use with sweet or savory dishes. 🍕 It makes a great sicilian pizza! (recipe on the blog) And this yummy banana bread (recipe on the bag)
⚡️Pro Tip: If you rely on the digestive enzymes that come in your shake powder, be aware that they will be rendered inactive under heat (~115F). So you may want to take a extra supplement.

What a great way to wake up this morning to the smell of freshly baked banana chocolate chip muffins- healthy of course 🐵🍌 RECIPE
2 cups oat flour
1/2 scoop @vega_team
sport vanilla protein powder
1/4 cup ground flax seed
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3 very ripe bananas, mashed
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 cup coconut milk for binding
2 tablespoon coconut oil
1 teaspoon pure maple syrup
2-3 tablespoon shredded raw coconut @westpointnaturals
Handful chocolate chips
Separate the wet from the dry ingredients. I like to use a @kitchenaidusa
mixer to combine all the ingredients together nicely.
Grease the muffin pan very well with coconut oil if you are not using muffin liners. Pour some of the mixture into each cell and place muffin pan in the oven for 15 min at 400 degrees F.
Remove once done and allow to cool.

for taking a "risk" in going with a slightly different flavour vs. the standard choc, caramel line ups. You’re not always going to be able to be on a strict diet. I’m normally pretty good about my macros, but sometimes I go over. Sometimes my calories are way too high and I’m way off my macronutrient goals. Whether it’s for your sanity, because you’re not at home, or just because you feel like it, having cheat meals is okay, and even good for you! Just try to stay away from doing it all of the time. This weekend, I’m out of town and won’t have a car, much time, or a lot of money, so eating clean will be hard. But, I’m going to try. If you find yourself in this situation, just try your best. Research before you go about what food places will be near you. Look at your options and come up with a meal plan. If you don’t have the time or patience for that, play it by ear. If your breakfast was high in carbs, maybe find something lower for lunch. Ask for egg whites or low oil. If you’re eating out a lot, it’s very likely that your fat will be high for the day. It doesn’t eliminate all of your progress. I need to remind myself of this sometimes when I’m too obsessive over my diet. The most important part about eating right is being accountable. I track my food in an app called MyFitnessPal. If you don’t have it, I can’t stress enough how highly I suggest getting an account. It not only allows you to plan out your food for the day, but it teaches you about the approximate calories and macros in foods. It is super helpful for beginners who want to become aware and accountable. Anyway, the point is- don’t stress about one bad weekend! It’s not the end, just do your best to stay on track. Who doesn’t like nachos and cheese? It’s one of my favourite things to eat when I go out. But, I am trying to take it easy on the meat these days so I started searching for recipes and came across this one. Just as I was about to share it with any clients in our private fitness group I thought I’d share it with you all! .
Like, can we say DAMN?
Cheesy Cauliflower Nachos
NOTE: For those of you following the lifestyle nutrition plan in my fitness program, this recipe is equivalent to: 1 green, 1/2 blue and 1 teaspoon.
Cheesy Cauliflower Nachos
1 medium head cauliflower cut into florets
2 tsp. olive oil
½ tsp. ground cumin
¼ tsp. sea salt or Himalayan salt
¼ tsp. chili powder
¼ tsp. garlic powder
½ cup shredded Monterey jack or pepperjack cheese
¼ cup chopped tomato
¼ cup chopped red onion
¼ cup chopped orange bell pepper
1 medium jalapeño seeds and veins removed (optional), sliced (can add a second if desired)
½ cup mashed avocado
2 Tbsp. finely chopped cilantro
Preheat oven to 425º F
Place cauliflower on baking sheet. Drizzle with oil. Sprinkle with cumin, salt, chili powder, and garlic powder; toss gently to blend. Spread evenly on baking sheet.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until tender crisp and golden.
Top evenly with cheese. Bake for 3 to 5 minutes, or until cheese is melted.
Top evenly with tomato, onion, bell pepper, jalapeños, avocado, and cilantro; serve immediately.
