Sketch of What’s His Name. I really love this character and drawing him lets me get to know proportions (and how to bend them). His upper body is wide and strong but he’s really short. I still want to exaggerate the legs so they’re skinnier, it will accent the upper body while making them seem longer. And I seriously am failing with his collar. I don’t know what to do with it. I’d rather not have a sheet of semi flexible metal extending to his shoulders (mobility is key for him and it would look stiff), but it looks odd otherwise. Who knows what the back is like and how the 2 ribbon things attach. Still need to design that.
Also, if anyone needs the advice (and I feel like I need it too), don’t worry if your sketches look like trash. A lot of people can sketch and it looks like a finished drawing, while mine has so many lines on top of lines that it starts to look like a blob. But it’s totally okay if your sketches look like sketches. That’s what they’re for. One thing to steer clear of, though: if, say, you’re drawing the curve of an arm but keep adjusting it by drawing over your previous lines, you might get confused if you don’t know which line was the best one. When your tangle of lines gets too thick, it may be time to slim it down with the eraser. You can make a darker line if you need to preserve the best part of the sketch.
