Let’s talk about MEDICINES 💊💉
Medicines are obviously critically important and amazingly beneficial in so many ways, but they are also WAY overused and misunderstood. How often do you pop an Advil or ask for a prescription without asking WHY you are feeling bad in the first place?
Many meds act as bandaids, covering symptoms rather than bringing true healing. Others have side effects that are worse than whatever you had going on in the first place. And most damage your gut, which holds the key to so much of our health.
This picture was taken at the height of my over-medication in 2014. I was on a weeklong trip with my mom, and in that trip alone I took COUNTLESS pills to manage my lupus symptoms, reduce inflammation, keep nausea at bay, fight infections, etc...all while eating English muffins for breakfast and ice cream for dessert 🤦🏽♀️
I stepped away from medications when I finally realized that they were doing me more harm than good. I use food as medicine now, which isn’t always easy but works a hell of a lot better. This isn’t necessarily possible for everyone, but I’m fortunate that it works for me.
It’s important to note that some people NEED medications and I’m not saying I will never take medicine again. Instead, I’m encouraging you to THINK before you pop a pill. Do your research about the substances you put in your body so that you know how it will truly impact you. Remember, knowledge is power.

Okay not gonna lie, I totally forgot to post yesterday
In general I’ve never posted all that much on social media so this is kind of new to me and it’s almost like I need to set reminders to be active lol
But my mom came home with this package the other day, it’s gluten free but also on the list of approved foods provided by Dr. Gundry! It tastes a little bland because of the lack of sweetener in it but I’ve just been putting almond butter and a green banana on it and enjoying it! Only one half of the bagel fills me up, it’s perfect.

There’s more to New Orleans than just booze🍷🍹, beads, and Mardi Gras🎭. In the French Quarter, gluten-free friendly restaurant, @gwfins
(📸), has fine dining and plenty of delicious gluten-free dishes. Enter…the Scalibut❗️—a hybrid dish combining halibut and scallops, served with risotto, snow peas and pea shoot butter. Two favorites in one!😀👍👍
In terms of safe dining, owner Gary Wollerman says “over the past 2 years, we have found ways to eliminate wheat from the majority of our menu. We have a dedicated fryer and kitchen space, as well as a strict protocol for how to handle gluten-free orders.”

I am unapologetically not acting feminine. I’m sweaty and, tbh, in some pain. I had a dental procedure over the weekend and I’m pretty sure I have an infection...but I got up (albeit a bit later than planned 😂) and I worked out. There’s no filter on this pic. It’s exactly how I feel at the moment and what I look like...and there ain’t nothing wrong with it!! When we come to the lake, we bring all of our food with us. I am always trying to come up with super easy meals so that I minimize my time in the kitchen. This comes together in about 15-20 minutes, and is SO GOOD! Spicy Shrimp and Grits
2 pounds raw shrimp (thawed if frozen), shelled and deveined
1/2 cup of salted butter
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 jalapeño, diced (leave in seeds and ribs to add spiciness)
1 red bell pepper, diced
1 green bell pepper, diced
1 can of tomato sauce
1/2 cup of half and half
1 teaspoon each of salt, pepper, and onion powder
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat and add the garlic and peppers. Cook until they start to soften, and then add the tomato sauce and cream. Allow the sauce to bubble and thicken for a few minutes, then add the shrimp. Stir occasionally until the shrimp turns pink, about 3 to 5 minutes. Serve over grits.
4 cups chicken stock
1 cup whole milk
1/2 cup butter
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups medium grind grits (not quick cooking!)
Bring the chicken stock to a boil and add the grits and salt. Turn the heat down and cook for 5 minutes stirring frequently. About halfway through, and the milk and butter. Serve immediately.
