Who Is My Neighbor?
If the ALL of our curriculum were dedicated solely to the Social Emotional/How to Be a Good and Joyful Human, we'd still run out of days.
Tomorrow is already #worldrefugeeday
, and I had not prepared lessons or bought shirts or anything. Sigh. We may run out to buy some blank tees to decorate, but this is what we came up with at breakfast.
With so much of our time together spent on Kindness and Encouragement acitivities lately, introducing the topic of Refugees wasn't as tough as I thought it might be. We talked about how so many people in the world don't have safe homes like we do, so they come a long way to find one. How could we be kind to them, encourage them?
Littler suggested making them beautiful houses in ALL of the colors, while Big suggested hearts for love. Some quick #cardboard
cutouts, paint sticks, and glue, and we have what the world SHOULD look like. Big even painted her streets a yellow gold color, which I thought just sang of Heaven.
We practiced the phrase "I Stand with Refugees!" and paraphrased with "I Will Be Your Friend!" #earlylearning #invitationtocreate #finemotorskills #literacy #languagedevelopment #socialemotional #kindnesscurriculum #cardboardschoolhouse #learningthroughplay #playmatters #smockson #storytelling #multiageclassroom #kidsactivities #toddleractivities #preschoolactivities #raisingwriters
