Hey everyone! 👋🏼 It’s been awhile. We are busily getting this space renovated and our equipment installed. A couple of speed bumps have slowed us down but we are determined to have a grand opening by March 1st. Fingers crossed! 🤞🏽 Looking forward to serving you and working closely with the community. Stay tuned for more updates! #feelingdetermined
Cabinets were placed in the bar today. Next week @redroostercoffeeroaster
will be coming down to install our equipment! ♥️
Happy Holidays, friends! 🎄 ☕️ 🎄 ☕️ January is right around the corner and we’ve been really busy getting things ready for the big day! We recently added a door that heads outside and into the alleyway. This will eventually be used for some outdoor seating. #comingsoon2018
First training at the @redroostercoffeeroaster
training lab was a huge success! What a joy to be partnering with these folks. Thank you so much Grace and the rest of the Red Rooster team! Looking forward to the future. ☕️🌟
This side of the room, which doesn’t feature a part of the wall mural, has the original brick foundation that dates back to the 1930’s and 40’s. Look closely and you can find some carved names and initials throughout. We will be installing a small door here so that customers can sit outside if they wish. #outsideseating
Trimming and sanding and painting and cleaning. Adding those finishing touches! #onemoremonthtogo
We’ve extended the bar for more sitting space and are having fun imagining this place filled with people in the new year. We are also looking forward to having a local artist come in to help us restore these wall murals. After so many years they need a little TLC. #almosthere
In the right light, at the right time, everything is extraordinary. 💡 💡 💡
Feeling so much gratitude for the hard work being put in to get this place up in running by January. It has been a long time coming....
The progress made so far has been out of this world. Won’t be long now, folks! What a joy it will be to give back to our community, and to the women working so hard to build a new future for themselves. It’s no secret that the coffee industry will provide a skill that they can use for permanent and sustainable employment in their future. #feelingood
Our bar is in! Wow, this place is really coming together so quickly! Looking forward to providing revenue to the West End community as a new and upcoming business in an area that is already focusing so much on neighborhood re-development.... (And serving great coffee too)! ☕️ 💪🏽 🛠
Here we come, Roanoke! ⭐️
Back in the 80’s and 90’s there was a popular Italian restaurant called, Villa Sorrento on Patterson Avenue. Anyone who ate there remembers the beautiful murals adorning the walls, displaying dreamy Mediterranean scenes. We are glad after so many years in different places these murals have finally made their way back to the West End for a permanent home. Weighing in at almost 200 pounds each and at 10 feet tall 4 of these 12 panels have already added so much character and vibrancy to West End Blend.
PS- This photo truly don’t do these pieces of art justice. This is something you will want to see in person. 😉
Brand new hardwood floors, the foundation for a future of change, a bridge across our fears of what has never been before.... We began by tearing down much of the interior so we can create a larger and more open space with tall ceilings. The bricks, which we love and want to keep exposed, have carvings of names and numbers that date back to the 1930's and 40's. Can’t wait for everyone to see!
The revitalization of Old Southwest by local investors has given the community a much needed face-lift. West End Blend is lucky to have Prydwen Enterprises doing much of the renovations on our soon to be coffee shop. Stay tuned for more sneak peeks at the progress being made here at 416 13th Street. ☕️🛠
“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but building the new.”
Transitional Options 4 Women (TOFW) on Patterson Avenue assists women released from prison returning back to the community through a re-entry program. West End Blend will not just act as a much needed coffee shop in Old Southwest, but a job training location for women in the TOFW re-entry program. This is West End. A neighborhood that’s on the rise and being rebuilt day by day by those that want to see it thrive. Follow our journey as we turn an abandoned building on 13th Street into a job-place for female ex offenders in the Roanoke valley (while also serving local, carefully sourced specialty coffee).
