“Adapt or die.” These three words seem to keep finding a new way of being relevant to me.
For the past week I have seen this particular Roadrunner bopping around the trails. Always quick to put brush between us I was unable to see why this particular bird had such an unusual gate, until yesterday.
We shared this kind of moment of you will, it stopping, me taking a few pictures, it hoping along, me pursuing and taking a few more pictures.
For an animal missing most of the lower half of its leg, it really wasn’t deterred from keeping on with life.
Wild animals don’t have the luxury of making excuses like we humans have. They either adapt of they die.
This has been a massive mental pivoting point in my life lately, adaption to circumstances. Sure I could make excuses for myself to justify not taking the pain of growth, but frankly, I’m tired of being dead in those excuses and adaptation is necessary to move forward.
This is true for all of us. We either adapt by gaining new skill, learning new knowledge, working toward something, overcoming adversity, “sticking it to the man,” creating a plan, etc etc all while building what we hope will be a better version of us, through adaptation.
This Roadrunner, impressed me. Many people I known impress me, because like this bird, they’ve adapted to overcome the misfortunes and crap life has thrown at them, they keep surviving, thriving, and being absolute badasses.
