Modified a single-leg Romanian deadlift with by lifting from a deficit to increase my range of motion. One thing that has served me well is learning to go towards pain and not away from it; to be proactive and not wait for someone else to do my saving. Recently an MRI revealed a partial thickness split tear of the proximal patellar tendon in my left knee. As expected (I have no faith in the western medical system) we’re almost two weeks post MRI results and no closer to getting squared away with some professional help. Communication with the doctor is slow and insurance companies suck. No matter. I’ve been taking care of it all along on my own and have faith in fixing my own stuff. I’ve already worked really hard for the healing (even before the official diagnosis) and have experienced profound results. I do these exercises (and a few others) everyday before I train because being healthy IS the priority. I’m not one to encourage people to get all their education from social media but when you understand your body and how it’s supposed to function it’s easy to weed out the bullshit from the good shit. There’s a few folks I’ve been following and poaching new exercises/information from that, if you don’t already, are worth following. @moveu_official is LEGIT. @strengthcoachtherapy and of course @squat_university. Training yesterday was actually fun. Not sure if that's a bad thing! I started with some strength endurance - heavy Grace to kick it off! . Then 5-3-2 Strict Muscle Ups into Max Muscle-Ups. 3 min rest between sets. 5-5-4. Those high rings throw off my lip completely! Got better at the end, though. Video of first set. iPad died. . Then 3 R of 5 Strict C2B into 5 BMU with 3 min rest between. Pretty easy - I was trying to keep care of my hands! Focused on form. . Finally, a VERY grippy gymnastic complex: 3 Rounds of 5 Strict T2B + 5 Strict Pull-Ups + 5 T2B + Max C2B! 15-12-5. Grip straight up left me!!! Brutal. Try it! . Ended the night with rowing interval conditioning and mechanic/efficiency practice/aerobic recovery: at absolute max effort :10 on/:10 off, :20 on/:20 off, :30 on/:30 off all the way up to :60 on/:60 off. Immediately I went into, at an easy pace, 1 rowing stroke with my legs only + 1 stroke with legs and hip opening + 1 stroke. Each round I'd add another standard stroke at the end. I got to around 17 standard strokes. Top set of bench press from yesterday rocking my sweet Team WGL athlete shirt. Bench is my worst lift but everything is peaking nicely for #ussnationals2018 next week. A lot of strongman athletes seem to think bench press is pointless for them to do. I actually used to be one of them years ago...until getting my bench stronger carried over to a stronger stone pick, stronger jerk, etc... Yes, bench press helped me with ATLAS STONES. This is a great example of why it is important to have at least a basic understanding of anatomy. I was stuck at a 350# stone for like a year...I kept doing all sorts of things to improve my pick (my weak point). Zerchers, front squats, good mornings, bicep work, deadlift variations, etc... Finally, after minimal improvement with those things I swallowed my pride and said "maybe my chest isn't strong enough to lock the stone in with that bear hug type force." Sure enough, after about a month of getting back into bench I hit a 370 stone then very soon after a 400. Aside from helping my stones, adding in bench helps overload the triceps for jerks/OH press. In today’s episode of “Learn to Love the Log Press” I experiment with jerk balances. I’m gradually getting more comfortable with the log on my chest/shoulders and supported overhead. This is a good way to train the positions and transfer from shoulder to overhead. I tried to focus on core stability and bracing, as well as getting under the log quickly. This set was a little shaky, but my last set - which I of course didn’t film - felt pretty solid. Planning to keep these in the rotation with the jerk dips and heavy holds. LONG WODS🍆😂 — Caught your attention now read the caption below :) . For me I have never been an endurance focused individual. Apart from training for my @tough_mudder a couple of months ago. I much prefer shorter, more intense bouts of exercise. I love sprints, I love power movements and love Olympic lifting. . Anything over 15 minutes from a WOD perspective and I start to fall apart. . The only way to fix that is to do longer WODs.. like this 25 min time cap beast! I RX’d and finished in 24 minutes! .
