/ What do you think about lanterns? - thoughts?
I personally think lanterns are somewhat magical. Magical in a sense where, eventhough people know lanterns are a human creation and not the living, people still tend to believe and put their hopes in it. Which is to an extent, quite impressive and bizarre. Don't you think?
In fact, even in some cultures especially among the Asian community. They tend to utilise lanterns as means to grant their wishes, reach their dreams and also goals. This can widely be seen when lanterns play quite an important role when it comes to festivities, celebrations or gatherings. This is because, some cultures believe that lanterns bring luck, grant hope, welcomes prosperity and most of all happiness. As can prevalently be seen during this festive month of Lunar New Year celebration. Lanterns are hung almost everywhere which for decades are no longer a rare sight to see. Some say this cultural practice derives from the Chinese community, which I still have yet to find out. As I mentioned before, I do not preach on things that I do not have good solid grounds on. Regardless, Happy Lunar New Year to those who are celebrating.
Photo taken not so long ago, when I was curious about Hôi An, Vietnam. The place is truly a reflection of its own history. And the resemblance of the place with ancient town of Melaka is not wholly uncanny but rather a little strange at some point. The aligned architecture, the temples and especially the shophouses are just too similar.
