In LiGHT of the hype ~ and the healing ~ @BlackPanther
BLASTED through even my wildest, widest and deepest visions.
I knew it would be good.
I knew it would be great.
I even knew it would be #extraordinary
What I didn’t know is just HOW DEEPLY & INGENIOUSLY #BlackPanther
would cut through me, beneath all my socio-cultural baggage, down to my very core and into my very being.
And I cried.
An @Marvel @MarvelStudios #Superhero #boxoffice #recordbreaker
made me cry.
See, what I did not expect is that a scene with Queen Mother Ramonda (played by the amazing @im.AngelaBassett
) healing her son T’Challa, Black Panther & King of Wakanda (played by the astounding @chadwickboseman
) would flood me with emotions ~ and visions ~ of my #Ghanaian
grandmother (may she #RESTinPOWER
), of my mother, and of every #QueenMother
of our African Motherland. (Yes, I said OUR African #Motherland
.) And I cried again at the end because BLACK PANTHER is
SO IMPORTANT that a #matinee
showing in #Harlem #NYC @amctheatersss
filled with at least 60 children was SILENT throughout, except for clapping and laughter.
It was that #CAPTIVATING
Of the many, many, MANY BRILLIANT LAYERS, LEVELS & THEMES WITHIN THE BLACK PANTHER FILM x MOVEMENT,
I was struck by 2 relationships / themes that I had not yet heard discussed:
1. The special brother-sister bond btwn Black Panther & his sister Shuri, Wakanda x World Scientist Extraordinaire (played by @letitiawright
2. The relationship btwn Black African-Americans & Continental Africans. (I 🖤 you @MichaelbJordan
~ and @lupitanyongo
I AM SO PROUD OF EVERY SINGLE HUMAN BEING INVOLVED IN BRINGING THE #MARVEL #COMICBOOK
STORY OF BLACK PANTHER TO THE SILVER SCREEN, I AM PROUD TO BE AFRICAN & I AM PROUD TO BE
