*** High-conflict personalities and how to not get sucked in *** You’ll come across around 10 000 individuals throughout your #lifetime
. Majority will be #good
but there will also be those bad for you and this is unavoidable. You will know you've stumbled upon one of the latter if each interaction leaves you anxious, lifeless, guilty, sad, tired... One of these will be high conflict people; those who’s #personality
spreads like cancer to you and then sucks you into futile battles. There are 4 traits to help you assess:
1. They are preoccupied with blaming others - their lack of introspection results in never being able to admit their own failure or oversight. Don’t be quilted into favors or shamed into submission.
2. All or nothing - for them there is no gray area, you are either completely #good
or completely bad, depending on their #mood
and appetite for fighting that day, there is no objectivity, the actions are not contextual
3. Not managing emotions - Highly confrontational individuals lack this skill. They are more like children throwing tantrums completely disregarding who they hurt in the process, the blood from the battle they are looking for is more important than the #relationships
4. Extreme behaviors - lack of self-discipline, objectivity and regard for others makes a highly explosive cocktail that is prone to exploding in extreme behaviors as soon as something doesn't suit them - uncalled anger, threats, storming out of the room, effort to escalate a situation... Some of these people might be those you don't have the luxury of completely cutting off, but you can disengage. The trick is, stay #respectful
but don't get to close, don’t share #intimate
or vulnerable things with them because they will become a weapon later. Don't accept the role of the villain, guilty party or be a flogging pole for rage. Respond with casual interest that validates the person but disregards the fight. #Protect
yourself from toxicity and respectfully retreat. Not all circuses or monkeys are yours to manage.
