A huge mistake I see people making in the gym is bench pressing with their legs up. - It looks cool and you can feel it more in your core, but it's going to do jack-sh!t for your bench press and chest. - Keep your feet on the floor. Drive your heels into the floor. This will give you the stability needed to bench press some huge weights. - Prince Joffrey benches with his feet up. Hodor bench presses with his feet down. The biggest of which is that, losing fat and building muscle require two polar opposite approaches. This is wrong and in reality, the only major difference between the two is the amount of energy (Calories) you consume🍔 . 🔥In terms of weight loss, being in a negative energy balance (calorie deficit) is necessary and vice versa for weight gain (Romieu et al., 2017). Whether you're trying to lose or gain weight it's important to track both your kcals and your protein. Research suggests 1.6g/kg of bodyweight (Morton et al., 2017) is ideal, with higher amounts of 2.3-3.1g/kg of Lean Body Mass needed as you get deeper into a weight loss phase (Helms et al., 2012)🤙 . 📌As well as this, whether you are trying to lose or gain weight, progressive overload should be the goal. Although hypertrophy is FAR from optimal in a deficit, it can still happen (Garthe et al., 2011) and so training to maintain and build strength and muscle should be a priority no matter your goals. It’s quite important to note that cardio is NOT needed to lose fat, sure it can help and is a great way of increasing a deficit, but it is in no way necessary. I can’t say that I always thought this way. I used to think that admitting you could be better or do better was a sign of weakness. Like it was a bad thing to want to improve yourself. Pffft! I was simply in the wrong environment, that’s all 👊🏼 Since I’ve changed careers and started coaching full-time, my entire life has changed for the better. My company literally POURS into us every single day and provides us with so much valuable training, development, and support...that I am more often than not, overcome with gratitude. For instance, just this month, our team (which has been #1 for four straight years) is providing us with top-notch training by @joshcoats_pushcoach , a life coach on the John Maxwell team. He is teaching us how to live out our legacy and go after what we really want in life. Basically, how to be rockstars 😉 I am also in @autumncalabrese ’s coach test group for 80 Day Obsession, and I am learning SO MUCH from her!! Today was our first, REFEED DAY, which is basically a day when we load up on fruits and high glycemic carbs to restore the glycogen levels in our muscles that have been depleted from eating at a deficit for the past 5.5 weeks! . It’s NOT a cheat day, it’s very structured as to what to choose from, but you better believe a big old juicy burger on the bun was an approved item! . I felt like I had to pick up each piece, piece by piece to try to glue it back together. But if you looked from the outside in everything was wonderful. Smile is what the world expects. In the space of 15 seconds .... from red to blue in tonight’s indoor cycling class! Tough but ‘nice’ session. A warm up on the Stages indoor cycling bikes followed by a mini ftp test. The stages Flight system calculated riders FTP for the evening and we did the following: 3 x :30 seconds intervals at 160% FTP followed by recovery. 10 minutes at 85% 7 minutes at 100 % 4 minutes at 110% Finishing with 2 x 1:30 efforts at 125% Thanks to @juliesfitover50 @juliesuperwoman for the smiles on the bike! Today’s workout was HARD. Yeah it was hard physically (psst, if a workout’s not hard you aren’t doing it right 😉) but it was also hard mentally. Idk why it was hard to be honest. I love total body day and I love most of the moves. I just wasn’t feelin’ it though 🤷🏻‍♀️ But I took breaks when I needed and pushed through. Progress, y’all. Not perfection ❤️
