I saw this story on @officerdaniels_1
page yesterday and have followed it ever since.
Without seeing it there, I wouldn’t have known about it at all, because I haven’t seen it reported on any major news outlets.
And that’s a damn shame.
If this young man had been killed by a police officer, no matter the circumstances, the story would’ve been on every news channel (and more than likely questioning the police). But, because he was murdered by gang members, it’s barely been reported outside of NYC (where it occurred) and there’s very little outrage against the perpetrators by some of the community from which they came. It’s mind boggling.
The sad truth is that one narrative sells, no matter how distorted it’s presentation is (“police shoot unarmed man”, for example) and the other narrative doesn’t sell (innocent teen murdered by gang members). The publicity (and sentiment that follows) should never be given to “controversial” police shootings that aren’t really controversial, but should rather be saved for incidents like this, where a promising young man who was an NYPD Explorer and wanted to protect and better his neighborhood was cut down by the very thugs who victimized it. THAT, should outrage society and be covered by all media outlets.
I’m happy to report the suspects were captured today and will face the consequences of their actions. May Junior Rest In Peace, as he was taken way, way too soon.
