A good 12 month program has periods of strength, conditioning, testing or competition and rest. Most of us find it hard to stop and rest. We worry we will lose fitness or fall behind or what ever BS we tell ourselves. Rest means our body can repair, joints can rest, our stress hormones can take a rest. This is where injury is prevented and longevity in training comes from. I don’t know about you guys. But the one thing I struggle with when it comes to eating healthy, is breakfast. I’m not the breakfast kind of person. Mainly because getting up and being productive in the morning is not my style. So I would often run out of the house to work or to start my day and then realise I haven’t eaten anything. Sound familiar? • But I was determined to find a way to eat healthy in the morning while on the run. So here came my breakfast burrito! Most of it can all be prepared the night before, you could even make the egg the night before if you wanted. But it’s super quick to poach an egg so I tend to make mine in the morning. • It’s got a chia seed wholemeal wrap, raw mushrooms, spinach, avocado and a poached egg. Hola hola mamitas y papitos. Muchos padres/madres me preguntan si es saludable y/o necesario ofrecer suplementos vitamínicos a nuestros tesoros, aquí mi recomendación. Al inicio, la #lechematerna exclusiva o la fórmula infantil acorde a la edad, aporta todos los nutrientes que necesitan nuestros hijos/as para estar saludables. Una vez que inicia la #introducciondesolidos es importante ofrecerles alimentos variados (frutas, vegetales, granos, cereales, carnes y huevos) cada uno en el momento adecuado, para satisfacer los requerimientos nutricionales que demanda el rápido crecimiento y desarrollo. Pero ésto no siempre sucede y muchos niños/as tienen una dieta insuficiente, principalmente en vitaminas, minerales y fibra. Los suplementos vitamínicos pueden ser beneficiosos en estos casos, pero deben ser indicados por el pediatra tras una evaluación completa, algunos bebés prematuros o niños/as con condiciones especiales de salud también llegan a necesitarlos. El motivo de que no todos los niños/as deben tomarlos es que algunas vitaminas se pueden almacenar en el organismo, como las liposolubles A y D, llegando a niveles tóxicos para la salud. Además, pueden disminuir la flora intestinal afectando el Sistema Inmune y haciéndolos más susceptibles a enfermedades. Ofrecer éstos suplementos podría reducir el aporte de alimentos frescos y variados en la dieta diario de los niños/as por pensar que ya tienen los micronutrientes necesarios. Entonces padres y madres, les recarco la importancia de ofrecer una alimentación saludable a sus tesoros y mantener el seguimiento pediátrico acorde a la edad para que sus tesoros estén sanos y felices.
