The Shining (1980)
Grady Daughters: Hello, Danny. Come and play with us. Come and play with us, Danny. Forever... and ever... and ever.
Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) becomes winter caretaker at the isolated Overlook Hotel in Colorado, hoping to cure his writer's block. He settles in along with his wife, Wendy (Shelley Duvall), and his son, Danny (Danny Lloyd), who is plagued by psychic premonitions. As Jack's writing goes nowhere and Danny's visions become more disturbing, Jack discovers the hotel's dark secrets and begins to unravel into a homicidal maniac hell-bent on terrorizing his family.
One of my favorite movies of all time, Jack Nicholson gives one of my favorite performances by any actor in any movie, he’s terrifying as Jack Torrance, it blows my mind that the man with the most Oscars nominations didn’t even get recognized for this flawless performance!
Shelley Duvall should have been nominated for a Oscar over a razzie award, she is amazing even though her screaming is over the top at least it’s believable that she’s scared unlike 80% of the scream queens we have now and days.
The cinematography is phenomenal in this movie and it’s probably some of the best cinematography ever to be seen in any film, it’s absolutely gorgeous to look at, John Alcott was one of the best cinematographers of his time and I think he should have earned himself a oscar nomination for this film!
