Big day tomorrow, my Juju graduates from elementary school.(😩)
Milestones like this are a good time to reflect, to look back to see how far we’ve come.
I walked Juju into kindergarten 6yrs ago, a fairly new single mom, making moves from a place of love, but also from a place of fear.
I was making the moves I thought I needed, to provide my daughter with the best(?). Luckily somewhere along the line, I realized I was once again just going through motions, which to me, is the path to nowhere (☠️). Fortunately I stopped. With my daughter in mind, I moved us back to our one bedroom, no backyard, no driveway apt. I realized that in order to build myself up, I’d have to learn to do so on my own two feet. This often means having to take a step back in order to take a step forward -a step I’d gladly take a million times over because it inevitably brought out the best in both of us.
Lead by example.
I look at the young lady my girl has become, how loving, accepting of others, & confident within herself, & I’d like to think somewhere in there it was encouraged by the actions her mama took.
Check in with yourself.
Live a life you’re passionate with. Whatever that means for you. For me it meant leaving my teaching job & pursuing a career connected to people pushing themselves to do the same.
On a bike.
In a dark room.
