Needing to learn from my puppers, sometimes you just need to rest. Last night I got little sleep, and thanks to the kids, it was very broken. I thought “Meh, it’s ok. You can push through and get your workout done.” So I fuel for my ride, hop on the trainer, and start burying myself in my workout. 30 min in, I got really dizzy and everything was getting blurry. Ok, dial back my workout. A few minutes later, same thing and now I’m feeling really sick. I did this about 4 times before I decided that I had to stop before I did more harm than good. I should have taken a step back and realized that going 110% while exhausted is not the best idea. The iPad first came out in 2010, and I've literally been wanting one since then, but could never justify it. I caved today - it'll be such a great tool to hold everything for supervision as I finally begin working towards my ATR, and honestly, I needed a major pick me up after feeling like I've been sick to various degrees for the last few weeks/maybe into months, with not much helping. Work hard, rest hard?
Driving into the gym this morning in my ice mobile wondering if this effort is totally worth it. Then again this malaise might be more due to the effects of being ill more than anything else. I have been seeing some results and have a new program to start but honestly just want to find somewhere comfy and warm to sleep a day or two away 😴😷🤒

This morning I forced out a HIIT sesh for my first day of my new training program... Only to have a doctor appointment an hour later to be told to rest for 3-5 days to shake this virus. So it wasn't feeling really unwell from the detox, I'm just sick 😫😓 Rest and Jade don't mix well at the best of times so I'm hoping all these healthy meals and lots of water (day 4 & enjoying good food!) Made it through laser gum surgery on the top and bottom right side this morning...Step 8,496 of Operation Smile Restoration! Only slightly swollen and still super numb, so feeling encouraged 👍🏻 I’ll be doing a liquid diet for a few days followed by two weeks of soft foods only. So hit me up with your favorite smoothie concoctions, favorite Halo Top flavors, and brilliant ways to liven up oatmeal & scrambled eggs 🍳I’m going to look at this as an opportunity to drop some lbs, y’all! 😂 No workouts for a few days which stinks, but I’m alive and moving so I’m staying positive always! Sunday I had an unexpected head injury and have been living with a concussion since. It's not my first, so I thought - especially with my stubborn ways, I'd be okay. Life stopped me in my tracks as I ended up in the ER today to find out "mild" is actually severe, I'm on a watch list and need to have those around me keep a very close eye on me. Being told that my idea of keeping it easy is anything but... I'm overwhelmed with the amazing people I have all around me. My clients who kept an eye on me during both of my classes and encouraged me to get looked at - even using a little bit of a scare tactic. My workteam took charge in making sure that my classes and shifts are covered so I can actually rest.
Not quite sure what I'm going to do with myself, or how to fully rest, but my heart is so full ❤ xo

THAT WHICH DOTH NOT KILL ME...
It’s inevitable, living in the Valley of the Sun and working out. Even with pre-dawn runs, shorter morning swims, 50SPF and twice annual skin checks, it happens.
It’s easier when it’s an injury. As a marathoner, I’m used to them. Injuries force you to rest, reminders that you literally cannot take a pain-free step.
My recent surgery—removal of a squamous cell on my shin—is different. I’m not allowed to exercise. Even when nothing hurts. “Nothing to elevate your heart rate,” my dermatologist cautions. “The stitches must heal.”
Now the enemy is not just the sun, but exercise.
Two weeks of no workouts feels like forever. I’m restless as a caged animal. Exercise reenergizes me, inspires creativity. Self-pity tunnels me deeper into my head. So I’m forcing rest and gratitude. Things could be worse. And two weeks isn’t forever.

At least it is for me! Last night after going to the ER with severe hip pain I went home on crutches and was prescribed a walker! (Some of you are like oh yeah she’s 61- that makes sense😂)
We all need rest- and when we don’t get enough our bodies are more susceptible to illness, damage, disease, aging prematurely etc.
Do you have trouble listening to your body and getting rest when you need it? If so, it might be forced upon you- like in my case.
Hustle to get the rest you need! Your body will thank you!

Day 455. 2 1/4 miles. I'm in a frustrating place right now, going from crushing my 50k PR and being less than a minute off the podium for my first 50 miler, to now being allowed to only hobble around the neighborhood a few minutes at a time. My MCL is likely not torn, just sprained, but I've been threatened with rest and low-impact only for what's supposed to be the longest month ever. It was bound to happen with the hectic schedule I was keeping between working full time, training 6 days a week and still being a mom and wife. Forced rest is something I’m not good at. I’ve skipped my workouts now on Friday and Saturday...this morning I got on the bike for a easy spin cause I was starting to go Crazy!😜 I guess its all part of the process.

While fresh farm eggs sounds like a great idea at the time..... ugh.....That moment when you are discharged from the hospital after getting septic from E.Coli and Salmonella exposure and one of the antibiotics they put you on was Flagyl and you realize that you won’t be able to drink alcohol for 15 days 😬. Which misery is worse? —Sepsis or not being able to self medicate with an old fashioned for 15 days?!!! For real though... huge thanks to Alexa McCallum and Todd Brown for forcing me to get out of bed and get dressed and go to the ER as I was getting progressively worse.
