Kokie - a Honey processed Ethiopian - released next week. A stunning example of the new wave of coffees coming out of Yirgacheffe, as detailed processing & traceability become key factors. #machinacoffee
Wet Processing was introduced to Ethiopia in the 1970’s with the very first wet mill being in Yirgacheffe. Since then coffees have either been available washed or fully natural, and the movement into honey produced coffees is very new. This innovation is in line with bigger investments in farms and the opening up of traceability and the purchasing structure in Ethiopia, moving away from the previous sole reliance on the ECX.
The Kokie cooperative itself has 828 members, and joined with Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperatives union in 2002 in order to increase their exposure to buyers and drive up the prices paid for their coffee.
Local smallholders grow heirloom varietals known locally as Kumie, Diga, and Wilsho...
Roses and champagne have been given to passengers on the first commercial flight between Ethiopia and Eritrea in 20 years. Passengers sang and danced in the aisles during the 60-minute EthiopianAirlines flight. But they wept once they landed in Eritrea's capital Asmara, as they met relatives and friends for the first time since the 1998-2000 border war. ..

After the fall of the Axumite Kingdom (parts of Ethiopia/Eritrea) the Agaw took brief control in the 10th-13th centuries, establishing the Zagwe Dynasty (meaning “of the agaw”) and included rulers like King Gebre Meskel Lalibela. The Agaw currently live in both countries. In Eritrea they are the Bilen, in Ethiopia they live in Gondar, Wollo, around Lake Tana as well as other areas in the Amhara Region. So much of “Ethiopian” history is very much Eritrean history. Stories of emperors and rulers, generals and heroes, kingdoms and dynasties, belong to both countries, and I hope with everything that’s going on, we can start to talk more about OUR centuries and centuries of history. The reality of the matter is, parts of Eritrea and parts of Ethiopia, were one long before they had their names. Our shared languages, cultures, appearances, they come from somewhere, some beautiful place in time. 💛
Enjoying a couple of hours out of the house full of boxes and to do-lists. Eating our favorite Ethiopian injera which our son grew up eating every day in his very early years. We think of our Ethiopian family whom we carry in our hearts until we can visit them again. They are as much part of us as our son is and we are forever grateful for all the love that connects us across boarders, cultures, distances and languages. ❤️ #ourlove #ethiopia #familybond #injera #takingabreak #balibound #movingtobali #greenschool #greenschoolbali

Beautiful Landscape! 🇪🇹
's Landscape! + Beautiful People🙏
A great relationship doesn’t happen because of the love you had at the beginning, but how well you continue building love until the end.
Thank you for pouring into our families and allowing relationships to not just start but continue to grow!
2 pics: So I went to the Ethiopian National Museum and met #Lucy
she was super mean and we got into a fight. That’s right I fought one of our most distant ancestors! We parted on good terms though.
Around the globe, an estimated 1.4 million children live with blindness. The majority of these kids live in low-income countries where basic eye care continues to be out of reach. Each year, another half million will lose their sight if access to care is not increased. Seva donors are helping to change this reality because no child should go blind because of where they are born.

There is so much to love in #lalibela #ethiopia
, especially early on a Sunday morning when the entire community makes its way to mass. Can you believe that the Church of St. George was carved out of one big mass of volcanic rock way back in the Middle Ages? #10percenttravel
