Yesterday I spoke to one of my former teachers, who is now a dear friend. He has a Ph.d in psychology, is an amazing yogi and he has a mindsight that is racer sharp due to decades of working with people in their highs and lows.
We spoke on the fact that sometimes it is not how much time you spend on the mat.
It is w h a t and h o w you do it and also about the ability to reflect how your training and practice is making you grow. How come some people can’t see within and beyond their persona, stuck in identity despite years of yoga practice and meditation? We could name a number of causes, known by masters and scholars/ researchers.
Some have to do with incorrect meditation technique. Some have to do with encountering inner blocks or barriers—or the mind seems to defend against interiorization. Some have difficulty transcending the structures of belief that they have constructed, or moving beyond the content of the mind. Some never move far enough the thread of consciousness to activate the immortal essences—the attentional principle, the spirit, and the Soul—so the sight of these conscious principles of their nature never awakens.
There are several types of spiritual blindness. Often it is an inability to see beyond the minds eye. Something is veiling. Many times belief. Strategies. Or identification with survival, stories, getting off.
Stress. Repetitive patterns.
We end up seeing things as we are, not as they are. Information filtered and coloured by our glasses.
In spiritual blindness we often justify our way as the highway and that there are no others roads.
So how does one start the process of adding sight to our vision?
It is possible to rehabilitate your inner sight. So don’t stop or hesitate prioritising introspection - keep meditating and add an active reflection.
Journal, dialogue, movement, physical exercise. Adding pause and distance. And trying new things, opening up to other ways of doing thing/ looking at things.
You will find an answer if you keep at it, because inner vision is your birthright. 🙏🏻✌🏻
