And then.......we ****Draw**** One of the fundamental components of child development, drawing has such importance for children. Yet as they get older, they tend to do it less. We love to encourage children to draw their ideas. Often, this is easier once they've worked through elements one and two - think, then write. Great artwork is in your creation; if you made it, then it is art. If you had fun making it, then it's a beautiful piece of art. We want children to draw without fear. The words "I can't" do not exist to us. We all can. Every child can. Love to draw. Love Storified.
The next key element is where the real fun starts: ****Write**** The imagination fuels writing. We plan, we plot, and we generate our vocabulary. We explore ideas and commit them freely to paper. We worry little about the constraints of grammar, spelling and punctuation - we revisit those afterwards. For now, the emphasis is on the idea. We write for the love of writing. We let our ideas loose from our pencils and write with joy. Refinement and tidying up comes naturally once we are happy with everything we have put on our page. To write is to create. And we love to help children create with freedom.

The Storified Art process is made up of three key elements. This first one is probably the most powerful of them all. ****Think**** The power of thought is incredible. What you think you see, may not be all that you see. That's true of so many things in life, but never more so than in the minds of our children. They have the power to imagine new worlds, to think of new possibilities, to dream up new stories and characters. The first step is always to just think. That is what will inform everything that's to come. A creative thought can spur amazing things into action.

This is another one of my favorite literacy books! It's not a teaching how-to guide, or anything like that - it's more of a case study that examines how and why certain groups (in this case, an Appalachian population) experience challenges when it comes to literacy. It's a fascinating read!!⠀ ⠀ ⠀ #teachersfollowteachers #teachersofinstagram #iteach #iteachtoo #teachergram #tpt#teacherspayteachers #teachersofig #igteachers #teachergram #iteachk #iteachkinder#iteachfirst #iteach1st #iteachsecond #iteach2nd #kindergarten #kinder #firstgrade#secondgrade #kindergartenteacher #firstgradeteacher #secondgradeteacher #readingspecialist#iteachreading #teacherblogger #teacherbloggers

I love having a classroom with a door to our school courtyard. I also love warm spring days. Writing poetry is so much easier when you are out in the sunshine ! ☀️💙
"Does it look right?" Asking our readers this often leads to blank stares because they just aren't sure! One way to help is simply taking a confusing word (ir/er/ur why do you all sound the same??) and providing examples/non examples to see if it helps the reader choose the right one!
