Here's a few of the nighttime shots from The Boatman. We created a mix of searchlights and moonlight using jolekos and 9 light maxi brutes since we couldn't afford HMIs or balloon lights since the night material was frequent and mixed within the entire schedule. As a result I ended up using a filter on the camera rather than gelling all our fixtures.
One of the craziest nights we experienced was our generator getting stuck in the sand, the tow getting stuck in the sand, and then taking another tow truck to dig them both out. We somehow still made our day. I always feel like that's the toughest on the director and demands a lot of them to be able to adapt on the fly.
We finally made it back to our hotel in the 100 degree nighttime weather and got ready for bed at 7 am. At 10 am, I was woken up by a screaming meth addict banging on the windows and staying in the room next door. He kept running around the entire hotel, screaming, and then would dash into the room next to us and try to open the door into our room. Fun! Eventually it got cleared up, but meant that we all had to head into work with rather disrupted sleep. I think that's part of the weirdness and challenge of features is the endurance element of switching schedules and taking it one day at a time.
