Skeiðvellir is a family run horse breeding farm, owned and managed by Lisbeth and her husband Sigurður, also known as Siggi Sæm. The current facilities were built in 2007 and are located by the beautiful Rangárþing Ytra, close to Hella on the Icelandic South Coast. Skeiðvellir is conveniently situated nearby many Icelandic landmarks such as Landmannalaugar, Skogafoss as well as the beautiful sights on the Golden Circle. Besides horse breeding, Skeiðvellir runs a guesthouse, which can be used as a base when going for riding trips or exploring the beautiful surrounding landscape. The family business also operates an Iceandic Horse visitors center, under the name Icelandic Horse World, where visitors can get to know the remarkable horses and explore the beautiful landscape on horseback.
Lisbeth and Siggi are both veterans when it comes to Icelandic Horses, and Siggi’s career goes back to 1972 when when he first competed in the Eurocup. He continued as a member of the Icelandic National team until 2012.
Skeiðvellir has been the home of incredible horses such as Hvinur frá Holtsmúla (2 x world champion) and Suðri frá Holtsmúla (3 x Icelandic champion). Lisbeth is particularly proud of her own horse, which can perform the Spanish steps, a unique skill for an Icelandic horse (See photo). #Horsesoficeland #iceland
