Spoke too harshly to someone you love? Moved to quickly and shattered a glass on the floor? Had to stick your foot in your mouth for saying something stupid? Forgot a really important meeting or deadline?
Been there. I've done it all. Some of those moments I replay in my mind over and over again. I beat myself up over doing or saying something I shouldn't have, or not doing or saying something I should have.
We are our own toughest critics.
Becoming a better person, learning from your mistakes, and growing are all important lofty goals. But it all starts with forgiving yourself. It's easy to get stuck replaying the crappy moments in our minds. Instead, we need to acknowledge the mistake, figure out what we can learn from it, and move the heck on.
So take a deep breath, breathe out, and release. Forgive yourself.
